On the day that Tony Blair finally called the General Election, Crosby's Liberal Democrat candidate Jim Murray has said he is ready for the challenge of taking on both Labour and the Conservatives.

"I am delighted to be a candidate in this election," Jim said. "It would be a great privilege to represent the people of Crosby, Formby, Hightown, Seaforth and Waterloo in Parliament."

"In the past twelve months the party in Crosby has been joined by former members of both the Labour and Conservative parties. This shows how Charles Kennedy's party is able to reach out to a wide cross section of people. Having taken members from both the other major parties, I am confident we can take votes from them to."
